Supplemental Training Overview

Supplemental Training Overview

Our Supplemental Training Programs at Central Virginia United are an important part of our player development model. Whether it is the winter, summer, or during our fall and spring Travel Seasons, we offer a variety of outlets for players to push themselves to the next level. Additionally, many of our players also choose to participate in Virginia ODP Programs, which you can read more about at the VYSA ODP Section of our website.

Below, you can find a brief overview of each program we offer, with a link to more in-depth information about the program. We hope you take the time to learn more about all the great programs CVU offers!

CVU Winter Futsal Program-

Our CVU Winter Futsal Program is the perfect place to sharpen up your skills over the Winter months. Futsal is the only officially sanctioned game by FIFA, which is the governing body of soccer for the entire world! Played with a heavier soccer ball that does not bounce, futsal encourages players to develop skill by learning to control the ball on the ground and develop comfort in handling the ball in tight spaces.

CVU Summer Soccer Camps-

Throughout the Summer Months, we offer a variety of summer camps to help players stay sharp and improve their games for the upcoming season of soccer. We offer camps for all different ages of players and with different focuses for each camp. Among some of our most popular camps are the Striker/Keeper Camp and our Academy camp which is modeled after our Academy Program. Friday Technical Training Program-

Our Friday Technical Training Programs are offered every fall and spring for players to improve their individual skills. This program is focused heavily on individual development and comfort on the ball. Players will work to master over 20 different fast footwork patterns that will improve their game and skill on the ball. This program also looks to bring the players into the game by working on a "player-based free-play" model.

Individual/Small Group Training-

Our Individual/Small Group Training is the best way to get the individual attention to improve your game that is not always available in a team training setting. Each session is tailored to the individual based upon the needs of his or her game. Run by ex-professional and our current Assistant Director of Coaching, Cory Weaver, we highly encourage you to check out this program if you are serious about improving your game.

VYSA ODP-

The Olympic Development Program (ODP) is a state run program that is administered by Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA). Virginia is split into 5 districts and each district holds tryouts and a training program in the fall. In November all players from each district tryout for the chance to make the State ODP team. Every year the Western and West Central District has a number of players chosen for the State team and even a few players who have gone on to play at the Regional and National levels.

The ODP program is a great opportunity for players to receive additional training in an advanced environment. Coaches include college coaches and some of the best youth soccer coaches in the area. The Western district teams will train on Friday evenings in the fall to avoid clashes with regular club soccer. Players are selected based upon birth year.

For additional information on how your son or daughter can be part of the VYSA Olympic Development Program, please contact Kevin Fabulich at kevin@centralvirginiaunited.com
